Welcome to Dev Blog #5! The long-awaited Pactoria map is finally here.
At a glance
- A full 15k × 15k world, with far more landmass than the old map
- Four continents: Nordova, Tethra, Erranth and Kaelor
- Fully custom caves and underground biomes, plus rare nether enclaves
- A chasm to bedrock, giant graveyards, ruins and dungeons waiting to be found
Four months in the making
This map has been in the works for four months straight, almost entirely thanks to our map builder, who poured tireless effort into making sure this world has variety and stands apart from any map you've stepped foot on before.
Because of that work, Pactoria is going to feel more alive than ever. Every continent feels like a world of its own, so huge thanks to him for that.
It's a full 15k × 15k, the same footprint as the old map, but don't let that fool you: landmass is way up this time around. Each of the four continents alone is big enough to outsize the average geopolitical map you'd find on most servers today.
The four continents
Nordova, Northwest
Also known as the famous top left. Nordova is clean, minimalist and grounded in realism, the continent built for people who just want to settle in and build without fighting the terrain every step of the way. Up north you'll find the huge fang-like mountain ranges it's known for: simple and beautiful.
Tethra, Southwest
The smallest of the four, but don't sleep on it. Tethra offers an amazing balance between fantasy and realism, really good for people who love to explore the world and its hidden mysteries but still want it to feel realistic. If you're looking to spice up your journey, head to Tethra.
Erranth, Southeast
A decently sized continent, just like Nordova. Erranth stands out with its amazing rock formations: exposed mountain ranges all over provide a natural defense to anyone who settles within those massive natural walls. Huge land bridges connect the two main parts of the continent, making them a perfect strategic location to hold. If you're looking for interesting terrain, Erranth is your go-to.
Kaelor, Northeast
Then comes the big one. Kaelor is by far the biggest continent of the four, and it's full to the brim with cool features:
- giant glowing crystals in the forest
- glowing mushrooms
- giant trees
- rock formations
- energy pillars
Out of all four, Kaelor takes the fantasy element to a whole new level, with its magical purple forests and cursed crimson island.
What the world hides
It's not just what's on the surface. The whole map has fully custom underground cave generation, with custom underground biomes too:
- crystal caves
- frozen caves
- forest caves
- huge open caverns you can't even see the end of
That makes every mining trip a whole journey of its own. If you're very lucky, you might even stumble across one of the nether enclaves of Pactoria: pockets of the nether itself that seeped into our world.
Beyond that, the world hides plenty more for those willing to look:
- A huge chasm separates all four continents under the oceans, going down to bedrock.
- Graveyards of giants sit forgotten in places few have found.
- Ruins of the past, and civilizations that still inhabit this world, wait to be stumbled upon.
- Dungeons full of danger, and even more glory, are scattered across Pactoria for anyone brave enough to go looking.
Your story to write
All in all, this world was carefully and masterfully shaped for you, the player, to write your own story in it, making sure that every day you discover something new, and that the excitement of exploring never runs out.
