Dev Blog #12: Quality of Life Additions

Welcome to Dev Blog #12! Not every feature needs its own dev blog, so here's a batch of quality of life additions packed into one.

At a glance

  • Gates · Upgradable furnaces · Better roads · Lore chat · Letters
  • XP extraction · Bookshelf browsing · Stat scrolls · Fish codex

Gates

Simple as it sounds: build a gate, then open or close it by clicking a sign, complete with a smooth little animation.

Upgradable furnaces

Furnaces, smokers and blast furnaces can now be upgraded by Shift + right-clicking them, boosting their speed and cutting down fuel consumption.

Even better, the upgrades stick around even if the furnace is broken and replaced. A small addition that makes bulk grinding and smelting a lot less of a chore.

Better roads

Placing wool underneath a road or path now gives you a speed boost while walking on it, making real, functional roads possible and travel on foot a lot more convenient.

Lore chat

A new chat built for roleplayers. Everything you say in lore chat shows up above your head as an animated chat bubble, and you can trigger different actions through it too.

These are things roleplayers have always improvised on other servers, so we figured it was time to make them real features.

Letters

You can now craft a letter, write it, sign it and seal it shut. Hand it to a messenger to deliver to anyone you like, and the recipient will be able to tell if it's been opened or tampered with along the way.

Another small one, built purely for roleplayers to have fun with.

XP extraction

Right-click an emerald block with an empty glass bottle to extract your XP straight into bottles. Great for storing XP you've grinded without the risk of losing it on death, ready for enchanting, mending, or even selling to other players.

Bookshelf browsing

Chiseled bookshelves now show the names of the books inside just by hovering over them. No more pulling every single book out to check. A nice boost for anyone building a real library.

Stat scrolls

Craft a stat scroll and apply it to a tool to start tracking its history: kills on a sword, blocks broken with a pickaxe, and more. A small touch that gives your gear real history and real value.

Fish codex

A new menu that shows every fish available to catch, from common all the way to mythical, along with how many of each you've caught over time.

The bigger picture

None of these are game-changing on their own, but we hope they make your time on Pactoria that much more enjoyable. We believe the small details matter just as much as the big ones.

See you in the next one!
